Weekly Update

Okay, time for my little update here. I know these posts haven’t been too exciting, but I’ve been so busy getting settled into Peoria I just don’t have much time for this right now. I really appreciate those of you who have been stopping by and commenting, it means a lot to me and I promise my new blog will be lot more fun. Speaking of my new blog, I’m going to start it on Monday December 3rd, so mark that on your calendar, if you have one. If you don’t have a calendar, then write it on your forehead and send me a photo and that’ll be next weeks post. I finished one week of work, and while I never blog about work, I will say it went very well and I’m working with some really nice and cool people. It’s a totally different kind of job than I had in New York and I really like it. It’s nice having a job that you don’t dread going in to. I’ve started fixing up my place and when I start my new blog I’ll give you a full tour, but here’s a few teaser shots of my new place for now.

It's in the fridge, Daddy-O. Are you hip to the jive?

Here's my entertainment center, Patty Smyth is now playing. Note the Sham Wow dolls below, created by my friend, Ash. They're very happy to be in Peoria.

This is my desk and writing area. I'm currently writing a story about leaving New York that will be up on the first post of my new blog that's going to debut December 3rd.

And here's my new favorite thing in the world, the ice machine in my building.

I don't know why this thing makes me happier than anything, but it does and that's a good thing.

Okay, I have to do some things and then get ready for work, so I’ll see you here next week. Have fun!

Bonus Photo From Gidget!

The world’s coolest DJ, Gidget, sent me this photo that really cracked me up. No one else except “Boris” will get the joke and that’s part of what I love about it! And speaking of Gidget and “Boris”, don’t forget to check out their wonderful radio show on Woody Radio, the “Secret Weapon”. “Boris” picks the tunes and Gidget spins them, it’s the best radio show in the world, tune in and turn on!

Close the door dammit!

Pad's looking good. Glad to hear the workfront is cool, too.

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBabyDave

I'd get some vodka to go with ice, add that to the orange juice and I'd be set!

Hope things are going in Peoria, you left NYC at the right time, I was blacked out on the NJ Shore for 7 freezing days and nights. A little better now but not that much. I'm still with 'ya ;)

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMykola Mick Dementiuk

You might find a dead rat in that ice machine. Seriously, you should check if someone clean that thing regularly.

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSam

@Makeout: I closed it right after I took the picture, I just moved in, so I'm not going to start breaking rules already!

@Baby Dave: Thanks, I'm real happy with both the apartment and my new job.

@Mykola Mick Dementiuk: I really feel for you and all my East Coast friends. Hang in there and I hope things start getting better soon!

@Sam: There's not as many rats here as in New York and the machine is very clean. The apartment manager here is a real efficient guy.

November 12, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

I see how immaculate your apartment is and that's really cool. I also noticed a book there on Keith Moon, only because I read a semi-bio on him written by his "minder" as they call it over there, Dougie Butler was Moon's assistant for years, anyways I'm almost finished with Pete Townshend's new memoir and it's incredible. I think its safe to say that we are all looking forward to that first official post from beautiful Peoria and the ice machine is very convenient and probably unheard of in NY unless your in a hotel. It's like trying to find a place to take a piss in Times Square, can be a challenge.

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAl

you're cracking my up with the ice machine obsession! lol!! i haven't seen gumby since you moved, did you leave him behind in nyc? i hope he didn't get blown away by sandy.

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBobby D.

Dammit!! I just remembered about our plan to skype yesterday. Sorry Marty, there's always next week.
I love the ice machine but still having trouble understanding why it's there. I guess the residents like to party!

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterClacky

Don't let that ice machine tempt you to over do it with the cocktails Marty, The next thing you know you'll be down in the basement with your friend from your younger days setting off fireworks and getting yourself evicted....oh yes, I remember THAT story, (heh heh). Those guitar fridge magnets are the greatest thing since pay toilets! Where can I get some?

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJaws the Cabbie

Love the new place! Can't wait for the new blog!

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShawn Chittle

Marty please have a guitar fridge magnet guessing contest! It's too irresistible! And did you see the article on Bill's in the NYT?

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShawn Chittle

Awwww! Marty! It looks like you're settling in nicely over there! I love your writing work station! And you HAVE to include an obligitory bathroom shot soon!

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermeleah rebeccah

Hey Marty - The new apartment is looking great and sure does show off your collections - really love the framed Cream magazine with Joan Jett on the cover ! ( I'll bet there is a story behind that :) Really glad to hear you're loving the new job and can't wait to read your Leaving New York story when it is ready - keep writing and carry on !

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKat

i cant help laughing everytime I look at the picture..
it was one of the worst road trips i had had..(election day. then a speeding ticket way way later) . BUT that fucking song.. I was laughing so hard i almost peed my pants..
best part is i was in the middle of NOWHERE.. worse than Peoria.. as the middle of the USA..a town of like 50 called Sidney, Indiana...
Middle of America on election day and Marty made my day!

I love the apartment set up...
dont pull your blog out on me baby.. if you do you'll make me crazy!
cant wait for december and Marty back at us full bore!

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGidget

I wish I had an ice machine. We live like savages here.

November 12, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteranonymous271

@Al: I read that Keith Moon biography by Dougie Butler, it was written horribly. The one I have is written by Tony Fletcher and it's really good. I need to buy the Pete Townshend biography.

@Clacky: I was on there waiting and you stood me up, you miserable bastard you! Just kidding, we'll try it again soon.

@Jaws: Too cool that you remember the story about the Gin Room! As far as the guitar magnets go, a friend of mine worked for Fender and he gave them to me. You might want to check their website.

@Shawn: They're Fender guitars, yeah I saw that NY Times article on Bill's. You have to go and throw eggs at the place when it opens. I hope you trash that place on your blog!

@meleah: I will do an obligatory bathroom shot just for you on the next post, I promise!

@Kat: Thanks so much. My friend Alex gave me that issue of Creem, because he knows I'm a Joan Jett fanatic. I really like my new job and the people I'm working with and everything is working out great. Nice to hear you're going to read my upcoming story, writers never get tired of hearing that!

@Gidget: That picture made my day! You're the best and thanks for the miles of smiles and your great show on Woody Radio!

@anonymous271: You New Yorkers are so primitive! Come on out to the Midwest, the living is easy out here!

Happy Felix Unger Day!

"On November 13th Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence. That request came from his wife."

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered Commenternight goat

@night goat: I laughed so hard getting your annual Felix Unger Day email! It's too funny and I appreciate the laugh it brings me every year. It's a genius thing you do, my friend!

November 13, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

Look at those cute Sham Wow guys! I had forgotten about them! I am happy they are still alive. But those alligators/crocodiles look like the are about to eat them! Ice Machines! Yay!

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAsh Pungsnotded

Marty, Your new place is so neat & clean. It's amazing how a little more room can highlight all of your cool toys.
With the addition of that Ice machine in the hall, it's like your back in college or a fancy hotel. Now you need a fancy Ice bucket & a smoking jacket, so you can tell the Bud Girls, I'll be right back , let me get some Ice.

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdannythefreelancer

You'll have to start a fridge magnet collection thing for the new blog Marty (like with the swizzle sticks), and update it regularly with photos. Speaking of photos...I WANNA SEE THAT CAR OF YOURS!!

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJaws the Cabbie

@Ash Pungsnotded: The Shamwow guys are very happy here and they're getting along with Gomer and Sgt. Carter (The Alligator Guys.) Hooray for ice machines!

@danny the freelancer: It is like a fancy hotel here. I'm really happy in the new apartment, I'll try and find those Bud girls!

@Jaws: Next week I'll post some photos of my car, it's 2012 Honda Civic and it's weird drivning again!

November 13, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

yeah let's see a photo of the Wombacher1

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered Commenternight goat

@night goat: I'm doing a car post next Monday! Happy Felix Unger Day!

Marty, welcome home. NYC's loss is Peoria's gain. Cheesburger Sunday should be easy now as
Khaki Jacks is just down or up the road. Budweiser, Bears and Burgers on Sunday.
Tony

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTony

Thanks, Tony! I had lunch today at Khaki Jack's with Greg Batton and it was great to see Nick and Cindy! I hope to see you in there next time. The first Cheeseburger Saturday Night will be held at Khaki Jack's! I'm living a stones throw away!

Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds! Wow. That song was unavoidable one winter when I was growing up.

And hey, Englebert Humperdinck was popular then, too, so it could have been worse! lol

Looking forward to the new blog, Marty. Glad the job is going so well!

Hi from Chris....

November 13, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdark1p

@dark1p: The name, "Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds," always cracked me up! I feel so lucky to have gotten this job! It's not a lot of pressure and the hours are perfect! Great to hear from you and tell Chris I said hi!

November 14, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

I do believe you're finally going to put Peoria on the map! Never before have so many turned their lonely eyes to Peoria in hopes of some fine writing.

November 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatrink

Greetings and salutations. Sorry about not bein' in touch lately. Believe it or not, we also had some damage, power outages and flooding up here North of the Border from Sandy. Although NOTHING like NYC/EV/NJ/Etc., it did manage to keep some of us CRAZY busy trying to get things back to normal for folks effected. And then got back to K-town, hit the GO button on the Magic Box Device, AND IT BLEW UP........REAL GOOD!!!
But HEY, if life wasn't a challenge it would be boring.........I guess. And, MAN, when I see some of the challenges to those in Staten Island, Rockaway and the Jersey Shore.........essentially, some of those folks lives will NEVER be the same again. Counting the lucky stars again, and sending good vibes and contributions their way. WOTTA MINDFUCK!!!
So pad almost looks GOOD HOUSEKEEPING good.........wotryu. some kinda new wave Marty Stuart? :+)
And I'm thinkin' the fascination with the ice machine might have something to do with the color of the ice scoop.........EEEEERILLLLLY reminds me of............GUMBY! Sure hope none of his cousins got melted down to make it.
So keep on chooglin' buddy.........REALLY looks good on 'ya!

November 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDrBOP

@Katrink: My goal is to showcase some of the cool things going on in this town, I think you're going to like it!

@DrBOP: Sorry to hear you got hit by Sandy. I still have survivor guilt over that and send good wishes your way and to everyone who got blasted by that bitch of a hurricane. Glad to hear you're up and running again! And that's too funny about the Gumby ice scoop. Maybe it's a distant cousin! Nice to see you back in the comments again, good Dr!

November 14, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

The place is shaping up nicely Daddio!
Sorry we've been playing voicemail tag the past week or two.
It's been crazy busy here too. We'll tag up soon and plan a road trip.

November 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenter"Boris"

@"Boris:" Thanks, Daddio! Let's try and yak soon! You can usually catch me after 10PM, or I'll try again over the weekend.

November 16, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

Great to see a new post Marty. You may not have a rat problem but from the looks of it you have a lizard problem. Those are two big ones underneath your radio!

P.S. - I spot a nice piece of artwork on your desk. Very cool.

November 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJason

@Jason: Thanks and great to hear from you! Those are actually alligators and there name's are Gomer and Sgt. Carter. I'm glad you noticed that piece of art, when I look at it I remember the good times and good friends I made in New York. Check the artist out here: http://jasonandersen-art.com/ Thanks again for the cool gift!

Where is the Frank Zappa picture ?

November 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGENE

@GENE: It's up on a wall, you'll see it when I give the grand tour at the new blog on December 10th!

November 19, 2012 | Registered CommenterTripping With Marty

YO! Sorry I've been away for so long - between work and play and severe respiratory failure, I've been busy. But now I'm back in action! Well, not really in action...but I'm back in lounging. Basically, I'm alert. Anyhoo, your place is looking great! How does it feel to have a full-sized fridge? I love all those magnets and the party of 12 on top! And all the books and bottles and Joan and candles. And the candles can be for decoration only, since you no longer need them for heat with your well-insulated digs! All in all, it looks really sweet and I'm glad you've settled in so nicely. The only question I have is this: Why, oh why, is the ice machine door that says "CLOSE DOOR" always opened in your pictures? Hmmm?

November 20, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBiff

@Biff: Good to hear from you and glad you're feeling better! I'm the culprit in the opened ice door. I open it for the picture and then quickly close it before the apartment police come and arrest me!
