We Now Interrupt This Broadcast...

To Announce A (Temporary) Change In Service.
When I started this blog back in February, I had just become unemployed and had hopes of doing this full time, either through someone backing it and helping me sell advertising or through donations, or maybe a mixture of both. I gave myself a deadline of May 1st to make a decision about it and today is that day. And the decision is that I don’t foresee me ever stopping this blog. I love doing it and have had such positive feedback, it’s really been great. A lot of people tune in every day and I truly appreciate the number of people following and reading TWM.

But...yes, there’s always a but...I really need to start looking for a full time job again.
I appreciate those of you who have contributed, from the bottom of my heart, but it’s just not enough to keep chugging along at this pace. I sent query letters to a lot of editors out there about possible backing for the blog or folding it into their online blogs and got the usual wall of silence in return. So, what I’m going to do is shorten the number of posts a week.

From here on in, until I secure another full time job, I’ll be posting five days a week, Friday through Tuesday and taking off Wednesday and Thursday (with a “real” post on Saturdays, instead of the Blooper Reel). This will allow me a lot more free time to focus on getting a job. Once I get one, I’ll go back to a seven day post schedule. I might have something on the line and I’m hoping to hear about that in the next couple weeks, but till then I have to really start putting my big nose to the grindstone.

I hope I don’t lose too many of you doing this, I’ve really appreciated the number of people who come here daily and I thank you all for reading. And I really want to thank those of you who leave comments here, sometimes the comments section starts a life of its own and I appreciate the commenters for being so loyal!

Okay, I’m off to look at the want ads, post my resume online and bug people on LinkedIn! I’ll see you this Friday for the weekly happy hour and update you on my looking for work status! As always, thanks for reading and stopping by TWM!

Further Reading: indeed, Monster and Career Builder.

I’m out of work,
I need a job,
I’m out of work.

Big Honking Announcement

A funny thing has happened here, well, actually it’s not too funny unless you’re a sadist, and even I’m not quite that twisted. But what’s happened is, I’ve lost a good portion of the audience I had a week ago. Here’s what happened: Last Wednesday I announced the new blog, Tripping With Marty and I got a great response from people and was really excited. The numbers were really big, I got a ton of hits, so I was off and running. The next day was the first day I live-blogged and I did it from McSorley’s and the numbers were even bigger! I was really happy and thought I had discovered something that was going to be huge. Then Friday came and the numbers started to decline.

“No big deal,” I thought to myself, “Friday’s usually slow down as people start gearing up for the weekend. And then the weekend came and weekend’s usually are kind of slow as well, but it was slower than usual.

“Don’t worry,” I said to myself, “It’ll pick up on Monday.

Then Monday came and it got even worse. Then I started worrying, Monday’s and Tuesday’s are usually the biggest days of the week. Oh speaking of Tuesday, that was yesterday and the number of hits continues in a downward spiral. Then I thought about it and realized maybe people don’t like this new live format. Some people have told me they don’t like commenting on older posts and that while they like what I’m doing, the number of posts is a little overwhelming.

I thought live-blogging would be a great idea, but you live and you learn.
Some people really got into it, but the majority has spoken and I’m not too proud to listen. Maybe it’s not that great of an idea. I’ve deccided to with the advice that my old co-pilot Al tried to give me, and I’m going to start doing this blog the way I did 365 Bars and MAD. That is one post a day from whatever I did the day before. And I’ll post it around noon.

I still like the idea of Tripping With Marty and now this opens up even more doors to the idea.
I can go out in the afternoon, early evening or late at night. Sometimes good things come out of mistakes and I think that’s going to be the case here.

So this is the only post for today, I have to go out and do something I can post tomorrow. Here’s hoping people give me a second chance with this idea!

If you’re reading this, I thank you and I’ll be back tomorrow at noon with a new TWM post. Just once per day! Cheers and beers to you all!

Tomorrow.

Hello and Welcome to Tripping With Marty!

Hello...anybody out there?

Another year, another blog. Welcome to "Tripping With Marty." If you want to know what's going to be going on here, it's all explained here.

First off I want to thank anyone who's reading this. It's always scary taking a break and then starting a new blog. I always hope I didn't lose my audience and so far I've been lucky. We'll see what happens with this one.

I feel all my blogs have led to this one. The Marty Wombacher Show morphed into A Guy Walks Into 365 Bars. When that was done, I took what I had learned and launched Marty After Dark. And now I'm starting a new phase, where I'm going to be blogging between 6 to 8 hours a day live (except on Saturday and Sunday and special occasions) and treat it like it's my full time job. How can I do this? Easy, I don't have a full time job anymore.

As I've always said, I don't blog about where I work and I'm not going to blog about where I used to work.
Basically what I will say is they moved to a location outside of New York City that would've been a bad commute for me and I wouldn't have been able to blog anymore. Luckily, I've had a feeling this would happen, I’ve saved up money and I have a little nest egg I can live on for awhile and do this blog full time. Something I've always dreamed about doing.
I really want to thank my friend (and yours!) "Boris" for designing a kick-ass piece of banner art for Tripping With Marty. "Boris" has designed all my banners and did a ton of work on The Marty Wombacher Show. I'm always amazed by his work and he totally blew me away with this one. I wanted it to be psychedelic, but still readable and he took the idea and hit it out of the ballpark. He took a picture of me and psychedelicized me by mirroring Richard Avedon's famous portrait of John Lennon from 1968. If you need any artwork, banners, logos, CD art and beyond, let me know and I'll put you in touch with "Boris." And don't miss his daily, "Secret Weapon" show he does with DJ Gidget on Woody Radio. "Boris" picks the tunes and DJ Gidget spins them.

Today there's just going to be three posts, this one, one about my work history in New York and then a goodnight video. Tomorrow we go live, tripping out into to the wild blue blogosphere!

I thank you for tuning in to Tripping With Marty, it should be a fun ride! The next post will be up around 3pm, check back and thanks for not abandoning me! I truly appreciate that!
