Saturday Night Cheeseburger

Live from New York, it’s Cheeseburger Saturday Night! Starring, Kobeyaki with special guest stars d.b.a., birthday boy, Spike and featuring the Ready for Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our host, Kobeyaki!

The sun is setting on Manhattan as we head out on Cheeseburger Saturday Night. Before the main course, we'll be stopping at d.b.a. where TWM commenter and pal, Spike is having a birthday celebration.

And here we are at d.b.a., let's get inside it's freezing out here tonight!

Wow, there's a big crowd at the bar for this early in the evening! Let's go find Spike.

And here he is! Happy birthday, Spike!

Oh no, look who invaded Spike's birthday card...aaaahhhhh!

Okay, after a couple bottles of appetizers, it's time to head out the door for the main course.

I was going to walk, but it's a little bit of a haul and it's really windy and spitting rain and snow, so I splurged and took a cab.

And here we are, Kobeyaki. Rolls, bowls, burgers and buns...there's a joke somewhere in there, but it's evading me right now, maybe later. Let's go inside, I'm starving.

It's a long and narrow space inside. I don't think this place has been open very long and it still looks new inside.

Here's the menu, but I already know what I want, so let's go order.

Jimmy was behind the counter and took my order, a nice guy.

They have three beers on draft here, I chose the Sapporo.

It comes in a 16 ounce cup and here's Jimmy serving it up.

There's a long communal table in the middle of the room. Normally I'd probably sit here.

But it wasn't that crowded, so I chose to sit at one of the wooden booths that line the far wall.

They give you a pager and it goes off when your order is ready.

And after a short five minute wait, off it goes!

And here's my meal at the pick up window served up by lovely, Devon!

The burger comes all wrapped up.

It's like unwrapping a present. Next year i'll have to bring Spike one of these to his birthday bash!  It looks and smells great!

Wow, it's really tasty and delicious! The burger is kobe beef and the toppings and condiments really jazz it up, a great burger! It doesn't have cheese and doesn't need any.

The tempura sweet potato fries were great too, really crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It was a great meal!

Maralyn and Chef Lancen were in the booth behind me and they were enjoying their meal as well. Maralyn's holding up a card where you can win free meal's here for a year! If I win, it could get a little repetitious here!

And it's out into the night to walk off the meal. See you all tomorrow!

My Meal
I got the Kobe Beef Burger, a side of the tempura sweet potato fries and a 16 ounce Sapporo beer. You order in a line and then you’re given a pager that rings when your order is ready. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a Japanese burger, but when the pager rang and I picked up my meal, I was pleasantly surprised.

The burgers don’t come with cheese and at first that was a bit of a disappointment, but after biting into the burger, it didn’t need anything else. The beef is kobe beef and it was really tasty and the burger is topped with a Japanese salad, teriyaki onions, teriyaki ketchup and spicy mayo and it was delicious! I always say the bun can make or break a burger and they serve theirs on a sweet, soft, bakery fresh broche bun that definitely made this burger. The fries were crispy and the perfect accompaniment.

In addition to the Kobe Beef Burger, Kobeyaki offers up a spicy tuna burger, a chicken teriyaki burger and a grilled veggie burger. They have four style of bowl meals where you can have rice, noodles or a salad as a base. There’s also eight styles of rolls including: a grilled vegetable roll, a shrimp tempura roll, a spicy tuna roll and a sashimi roll. And if you have a sweet tooth after dinner, desserts include: mochi ice cream, cinnamon buns and a green tea ice cream sandwich.
