"The Wombacher" At Tompkins Square Bagel

Okay, tonight I’m going to the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash at Webster Hall and photos will be posted from that tomorrow on Monday. But first, I need to grab some dinner. Usually dinner would consist of a cheeseburger, this being Saturday night and all, but there’s a new sandwich available at one of my favorite places in town, Tompkins Square Bagel that I must try. So it's off we go in search of this sandwich!

Man in kilt alert!

And here we are at Tompkins Square Bagel. Love the artwork on the sign by Mosaic Man!

Some of the daily offerings are featured on this sandwich board outside of TSB, but I don't see the sandwich I'm looking for, let's go inside and check it out.

And here we are, okay time to look at the menu behind the counter.

There it is, now let's look a little closer...

Yes! A sandwich named after yours fooly, "The Wombacher!" There's no better way to say, "Eat me," than this, so I promptly ordered one up. Let's go see how it's assembled.

I ordered the sandwich on an onion bagel and here's Jonas toasting it up.

The pepper crusted sirloin is being sliced.

And now The Wombacher is being assembled.

Here's Jonas presenting me with the sandwich with a name so ridiculous it's got to be good!

Here's a birds-eye-view of The Wombacher. The bagel sandwich consists of pepper crusted sirloin, cheddar cheese and red peppers, it looks great!

And here we have it, The Wombacher, unwrapped and ready to be eaten.

And my pal, Shawn Chittle has shown up on the scene striking a Richard Nixon post. Shawn took my camera to take shots of me eating The Wombacher.

The Wombacher, the man and the sandwich!

Wombacher bites Wombacher! This is a great sandwich and if you're in the neighborhood, I encourage you to stop by TSB and eat me! Thanks to Shawn for stopping by and taking the photos and to Chris and everyone at Tompkins Square Bagels for this honor!

And now it's on to the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash!

And here we are lined up at Webster Hall, check out the photos at the post tomorrow!

I don't want to say "I Told You So",
But...
I told you so!
Add THAT to your Resume'!

But how much does it cost and is a Budweiser on the house?

@Alan Simpson: I am honored and it's a delicious sandwich!

@csp: Re: fucking Rogans...ha ha ha! I thought of him too!

@"Boris:" Yes you did and it is added, Daddio!

@Mykola Mick Dementiuk: It's under ten bucks and they don't have beer, but the Hi-Fi bar is just a couple steps away, so you could get one to go and wash it down with a Bud in there!

Marty, your own sandwich - that is too fuckin' cool.

What you really should have is a cocktail named after you. I picture a variation on a gin and tonic with some sort of elaborate swizzel stick served in an ornate glass that has a boxman face on the side of it.

@DaveW: It is fucking cool! I love your idea for a drink! I'll have to pitch that around town!

Damn. I didn't know you were named after a sandwich. What are the odds of that?

May 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterrandall

Congratulations!

You must have gone in at the right time - when I went in there on Saturday, the line went to the back of the store. I didn't even see the new addition to the menu, so will have to go back and try it out.

May 21, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterco

@THE NOTORIOUS L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N.: Ha ha ha!

@JHwang: Having my own beer would certainly be the ultimate, one of these days!

@randall: I think it's something my parents planned. I need to thank them for this!

@Goggla: I've heard about the lines on the weekends, go around 7PM and check it out, there's usually no lines at that time of day.

@co: It's a great place and try the sandwich, it's delicious!

The Wombacher sandwich is really quite good. Especially if you like the tang of cheddar, it's really got a nice bite to it. Of course everyone knows "The Wombacher" is the best name for a sandwich in history... duh!

Marty really is such a great guy that Tompkins Square Bagels could not help themselves. Kudos to Chris & Co. at the store for being such amazing people.

Marty - I can't believe you didn't link to "Eat It" from Weird Al? Get on that!

May 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShawn Chittle

@Shawn: Thanks, my friend! The name is tied with "The Chittle" as the best name in the history of sandwiches! Sorry about missing the Weird Al opportunity, I'm a little off my game these days!

Marty:

Awesome article; a sandwich with your name is a serious honor. Like the food preparer's name too.

J

@It almost always rains: Thanks, I am honored by this and I agree, the food preparer's name is one given out only to distinguished and worthy gentlemen!
